fishing from a sailboat

I should fill in a bit of background about this fishing thing.
First of all our cockpit(sitting area) on a sailboat is tight quarters for 2 people let alone 4.
Kind of get in your spot and stay there.
Just before the fish bit, all was calm and I poured 2 cups of coffee and put them on the seat beside Ken.
The downrigger and pole are awkward to get to because of the railing (the pushpit-as opposed to the pulpit at the front)
The fish bit and Bob made a mad dash down the steps to the cabin to get the net-apparently it's bad luck to have the net accessible. In his haste to get back to the action, he knocked the coffee all over the seat, the chart(aka map) Ken and the seat cushion. We don't usually use the cushions but Delores was getting "monkey-butt" whatever that is...
So Bob's reeling in the downrigger,
Delores is reeling in the fish,
Ken is trying to steer and clean himself off
and I'm mopping up coffee which is flowing freely all over the floor.
Later on we snagged bottom and lost the 10 lb cannon ball weight from the downrigger.
All in all, I figure the fish cost about $70.00/lb

Ling Cod

Lunch at Van Anda on Texada Island.
B&D taught us how to use the downrigger and we had lots of bites. I lost a big ling after catching this one. The salmon are getting ready to spawn so huge schools of fish show up on our fishfinder but they are down hundreds of feet.

They have one more day here and hopefully we get out on a charter-weather is iffy for tomorrow..

Hey, I think I've figured this out..
Bailey is pretty sure that they are for her...
Bob & Ken make pretty good substitutes for a 2 hp motor.

fishing

Bob & Delores, the fishing fools, are visiting, so I'm learning how to fish-we caught cutthroat trout yesterday in Inland Lake.
Tomorrow weather permitting we are booked for a fishing charter on the chuck (ocean), so stay tuned-maybe we are on a roll.....

Race day in Powell River

The first annual Catalina sailboat race.
We are recognizable by the blue stripe around our new sail.
Many thanks to Andy and Mike Brinton who were patient instructors, and great ballast!
Bailey managed to stay attached to the couch through even the most severe tacks.
After 2 races followed by a BBQ, we were awarded 2nd prize

my first OAP cheque

Today we loaded the front door in the van, took it to the autobody shop and it was painted and back on by 4:30.
We love it.
The colour is CIL Pebble Drift, and now Ken wants a car that colour. The picture on the right is more accurate for some reason.
The obvious colour choice would have been red or green but there you go. The people I trusted agreed that this was a good choice-(thanks Les)

we now have a roller furling

Until now, the foresail on our boat was attached with clips and raised with a halyard. This was my job and required several trips to the bow each time, often in rough water especially to bring it down before going in the harbour.
The roller furling means that the sail is always "up" and when not in use is rolled up. The sail fits in a slot and stays there. One pull on a rope and out it comes.
